Admidst a Japanese garden in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina sits an old stone lodge called Next Step Recovery. This place provided me with the time to become introspective. My staff therapist helped me to look at myself, deal with myself and understand how sobriety can enrich my life. I found tools here that I benefitted from in my search for self love. These tools include meditation, yoga and, especially, Reiki.
Next Step has been monumental to me as I begin my Next Step—facing the world confident and sober.

Today I do not feel overwhelmed by the real world and
taking on life’s responsibilities. With Next Step’s

Through my first year of sobriety,
I have found that staying away from alcohol has been
the easy part. Living as a responsible and functioning
adult has been the hard part. Treatment gave me the
knowledge of how to put down the substance. NextStep
Recovery for Women has shown me how to live a little
more each day as a better daughter, a better friend,
a better person for myself, and a better member of
society. s
NextStep offered a safe environment
with which I could express my emotions without fear or
condemnation from others. The weekly life skills and
relapse prevention classes are continuing education that
there is life beyond addiction; that we can cope; that
we can come out clean on the other side.
NextStep provides enough structure
to allow us to grow and guides us towards more responsible
behavior, without doing it for us. Having licensed counselors
on staff is an added bonus to being a resident at NextStep—there
was always someone available when I needed guidance and
objectivity.
NextStep has been the literal
step that I needed between treatment and before I stepped
out into real life again on my own. NextStep helped me
find dignity again. NextStep helped me find integrity
again. Most importantly, NextStep helped me learn to
respect myself and others again.
I cannot say if I would have stayed
sober had I not lived at NextStep. I do know the more
time spent in a sober living environment ,statistically,
the better the chances are that you will remain sober.
I am grateful that I did not take for granted the opportunity
to become a resident of NextStep. I am blessed.

This program has given me
my life back. Next Step has given me the tools to
hold myself accountable in my recovery. I have been
sober and clean for over six months now,
and my life is more than I could ever imagine.
With
the help of higher power, my sponsor, and the Next
Step community I have been able to blossom. This
program has taught me to live in the moment. The fellowship
with the women at the house has allowed me to successfully
interact in a community.
Recently,
I have overcome obstacles that previously would have
sent me into a downward spiral. I am forever grateful
to Susan Stader for creating this program and believing
in me. The program works if you work it, so work it
and live!

After 15 yrs of substance abuse,
I completed 42 days of primary treatment. However, in
order to continue this lifelong process of recovery,
I found it crucial to take part in the services offered
by Next Step Recovery. Each day brings forth room for
growth and change in a safe, serene atmosphere with other
women walking the same path as I.
Only 2 months into my stay
here at Next Step, I'm more confident than ever I've
made the right decision. Words can't express the benefits
I've gained from being here. I would definitely recommend
Next Step Recovery House for Women—it's an awesome
place to be!
